Guiding Serve The King Ministries to Inspire MTU Students

“Without you, what am I to myself but a guide to my own self-destruction?” – Augustine

This is where you’ll find campus info, student stories, and reflections on what God has been doing in our lives here.

Partnerships

Pictured here is some of the men of Evangel Presbytery, the man on my right also passed licensure, and the farthest right is Sion Han, who is going to be working alongside me this fall.

The first part of the summer has been a sprint, I’ve got 2 classes, the summer bible study, we’ve been given a church building and my wife is nearing the birth of Asher, our son. Some of you may be interested in the licensing process, so I want to talk about Evangel first.

Evangel Presbytery

Evangel Presbytery unites Christian churches around two core principles I deeply value: 1) Flexibility in teaching either Infant Baptism or Credobaptism, and 2) Church discipline as an essential practice for correction and edification.

Allowing diverse views on the timing and mode of baptism fosters a community where people can share fellowship and communion despite differences. This approach, mirrored in our STK practices, helps those unfamiliar with sacraments understand their significance and purpose.

Church discipline, often neglected, is vital for a healthy church. Many congregations shy away from correction or excommunication, weakening the church’s witness. Being a Christian means obeying Christ’s commands (John 14:15), and discipline upholds this call.

Coupled with these principles, the support of godly men investing in me and my family—along with biweekly Zoom meetings for the wives of NGA Students—provides invaluable strength for us in the far north.

Co-Laborer

Sion Han, a recent NGA graduate, was recommended to me after retreat, where Pastor Baker, impressed yet concerned about my workload, prioritized finding me support. Sion, younger but seasoned in campus ministry from the University of Cincinnati, is fully trained and eligible for ordination within Evangel Presbytery. His calm demeanor and deep knowledge make him an ideal partner. Starting mid-August, Sion will assist with church work, and I’m eager for his help in discipling and evangelizing on MTU’s campus.

Family

Today marks our anniversary, and we’re thrilled that we’re expecting a boy in August, Asher—a joyful surprise. Jen’s a bit nervous about raising a boy, but I’m excited for the new adventures ahead. Family worship has grown trickier but remains manageable. Elisabeth is thriving, taking her first steps, and Abigail’s potty training has brought some welcome relief to our daily routine. God has blessed us immensely.

Students

Currently, we’re engaging with about a dozen students, with more to connect with soon. I’m eager to see our ministry grow and deepen these relationships. Each year, I’m struck by how unique every generation is, and I pray God continues to work through this “old” guy (ha!) to reach them and help shape their futures for God’s Glory.

That’s all for now…

I’m not sure how this will unfold, but I want you to have full access to my thoughts and efforts as we move forward. Picture yourself alongside me, proclaiming the gospel, uplifting the weary, and confronting the wayward, step by step. I hope this captures the heart of our shared mission.
